Historic Baltimore

Today we went to downtown Baltimore to look at all of the historic sites. First, we went to Hamden, where many John Waters films are set (most memorably "Hairspray"). The houses in this neighborhood are called row houses because they all sit right next to each other in a row.

After Hamden we went to downtown and toured the Walters Art Museum. It was BEAUTIFUL! There was Renaissance, Asian, and Italian artwork from hundreds and even thousands of years ago. It was such a great experience to see how artwork has evolved over the years.

After the museum, we went to the Mt. Vernon area and looked at the gigantic original Washington Monument. We also saw a bronze statue of Marquis de Lafayette, who was a very famous general during the American Revolution. Around the corner of the monument, was the most beautiful gothic-style church I've ever seen: Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church. It had red doors and all of the intricate designs were amazing.

To conclude our adventures in downtown Baltimore, we went to the home of famous poet, Edgar Allan Poe. It was the tiniest home I've ever stepped foot in. The stair cases were about 2 feet wide and the ceilings were no more than 6 feet high. I can imagine being depressed in a place that confined.
